Mexican Chiminea
You can use your Chiminea just like the
Mexicans used to, to cook and bake your food. They are also
designed to keep the fires burning - even through the cold and
wet seasons. Tradtional Mexican Chimineas are exported to many
other countries, and their popularity has grown very quickly
as an outdoor decorative garden feature.
Chimineas
that are made of clay can break. You should first think about
where you are going to put your clay chiminea before you have
it at home. Since they are made of Clay they are typically heavy
especially difficult to move. Once you know where you are going
to place it, this means that there will be less movement and
less chance of having an accident and breaking it. The location
should be chosen with consideration to being free of over hanging
trees or branches. The chiminea exhaust will have heat rising
up and above and you do not want anything to be catching alight.
Good locations are those that are flat and fireproof like rocks,
bricks or concrete. This kind of surface is important because
you will find when stoking the fire that hot ash may fall out.
When you have chosen a solid and safe location, you should put
about two inches of gravel or sand into the bottom of the clay
chiminea to keep the hot coal off the clay.
It is also important to start of with small
fires and it doesn't take much to get them going.
If you look after your chiminea and protect
it from the changing weather conditions, it will only help to
add life to it. There are covers plus other Chiminea
accessories available.
